On November 7th and 8th, a dedicated team of educators from British International School (BIS) Hanoi joined over 150 educators at the FOBISIA Teaching Community Conference, hosted by our sister school, BVIS Hanoi.
This is an excellent professional development opportunity for our teachers and teaching assistants, made possible by our school's long-standing membership in The Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA). Since 2015, we have proudly been a member of FOBISIA, a collaborative federation that includes over 100 international schools. Member schools work together to share teaching best practices and offer students unique learning experiences.

Over two inspiring days, the theme “Connection and Innovation” came to life as teachers from across Southeast Asia gathered to learn from one another, share experiences, and reconnect with the heart of teaching.
The conference began with a dynamic Welcome Evening and continued with a full-day programme of workshops, keynote presentations, and collaborative sessions. Delegates engaged in rich professional dialogue, explored innovative classroom practices, and built meaningful connections with colleagues from across the region.
Participants also had the chance to learn from renowned speakers, including Dr Simon Breakspear, Lisa Low, and Chris Scorer, whose thought-provoking keynotes encouraged educators to reimagine teaching and learning in a rapidly evolving world. We were particularly proud to see three members of our community lead engaging workshops.

Mr Adam Lewis shared insights in his session titled “Translanguaging Routines in the Primary Classroom: Building Bridges Between Languages,” where he provided practical strategies to support multilingual learners.

Ms Ori Nguyen presented on “Intercultural Competence: Teachers as Agents of Connection and Innovation,” exploring how educators can promote understanding and collaboration across cultures.

Lastly, Ms Beatrice Policarpio led a workshop on “Transitioning from ‘Learning Areas’ to ‘Play Zones’ in Early Years Classrooms,” emphasising the importance of purposeful play in creating flexible and engaging learning environments.
Their sessions were warmly received, demonstrating the expertise and dedication of our staff. With renewed inspiration and strengthened professional connections, our educators are returning to BIS Hanoi ready to bring these innovative approaches into their classrooms, creating even more engaging and meaningful learning experiences for our students.
